Harada hoping to sneak into Goodwood

Trainer Danny O’Brien is planning an ambitious interstate raid with talented four-year-old Prince Harada.

An impressive first-up winner at his debut for O’Brien at Caulfield last month, the son of Haradasun then finished a close-up fourth at Flemington last start.

O’Brien said he was hopeful the gelding could sneak into the $500,000 Group 1 Tapestry Wines Goodwood (1200m) in Adelaide on Saturday May 16.

“We’re going to nominate him for The Goodwood but he’s probably very unlikely to even get a run,” O’Brien said.

“If we don’t get into the Goodwood he’ll probably just go to another race at Flemington and we’ll try and get his rating up because we’ve still got next season and the season after that.”

O’Brien said Prince Harada didn’t handle the heavy track at Flemington and was beaten by the barrier draw.

“We drew the wrong side the other day and unfortunately he was in an awkward spot on a day where you really had to be hard against the outside rail,” he said.

“He won on the slow as a two-year-old but Craig Williams did say on the genuinely heavy track that he wasn’t as effective.

“He went to win the race and he let down and couldn’t pick up as you would have liked.”

Prince Harada contested two Group 1 races as a three-year-old for previous trainer Tony Vasil, finishing sixth in the Caulfield Guineas (1600m) and seventh in the Australian Guineas (1600m).
