Sparkling Filly to Chase Black Type

Black type will be the immediate goal for smart filly Sparkling Satine after she scored a strong win in the bookiesonline.com.au Handicap (1600m) at Moonee Valley tonight.Another win for the Danny O'Brien and James Winks combination, Sparkling Satine sat off the speed, but finished too well in a dominant performance.

A three-year-old filly by O'Reilly bred by Waikato Stud in New Zealand, Sparkling Satine eased in the betting despite her excellent last start victory at Caulfield on Boxing Day.

On that occasion she beat tonight's "also ran" Just Like El by a long neck.

O'Brien's stable foreman Gino Mata said Sparkling Satine was suitably impressed with the performance of the consistent and talented filly.

"It was a good win," Mata said. "Particularly after she's had such a long time off."

"She got a little agitated in the mounting yard - being fresh and all."

Mata made sure to mention the excellent ride from Winks.

"It was a great ride. He gave it a lovely run down the back and had him right where you wanted him to be."

Sparkling Satine would now be aimed at a suitable stakes race for three-year-old fillies.

"At this time of the year it would be good to find a listed fillies race over a mile," Mata commented.

"She settled so well again and she gives every indication that she will be able to handle a step up in distance."

"There's no reason I guess that she wouldn't get a mile and a quarter."

When the runners flashed past the post tonight it was Sparkling Satine ($6-$9) who held a length and a quarter margin over runner-up Gratis ($6-$7).

Regally bred filly Dance of Danes ($3.50-$7.50) was another head back in third place.
