Prompt Return all set for Clockwise Classic

Exciting colt Prompt Return has progressed well from his brilliant Maribyrnong Plate win as he heads towards Saturday’s Magic Millions Clockwise Classic at Ballarat.

Trainer Danny O’Brien said Prompt Return showed the same signature speed when he trialled the clockwise direction at Ballarat last month.

O’Brien said this son of Beneteau was able to spear to the front in the Ballarat trial just as he has in his Bendigo and Flemington runs.

“He led on the fence and the horse that chased him home in the trial was the horse (Old Trieste) that chased him home at Flemington,” O’Brien said.

“He’s had a gallop that way and we do a lot of slow work the Sydney way. Most horses handle the change in direction.

“He seems really good. He came out of Flemington in good order and he was very bright last week — we have no reason not to take him there on Saturday.”

Entries for the $200,000 restricted race have been extended after just 10 nominations were received.

Included in the entries are Old Trieste, pictured trialling against Prompt Return at Ballarat in late October, the Patrick Payne-trained Atalanta Miss, a winner on debut at Morphettville last month, and the Gai Waterhouse-trained Carriages, who ran third behind Mine Two at Randwick on November 8.
