Classy trial has Tyrannize ready for return

A year on from his first city win, talented gelding Tyrannize showed there could be more in store after a classy trial win at Werribee on Monday.

The four-year-old Waikato Stud-bred was dominant in the 800m jump out winning easily under a hold which pleased trainer Danny O'Brien.

"He was a nice horse as a three-year-old and was able to win at Flemington last summer. He looks like he has matured nicely as he has returned in great order after having a good break," O' Brien said.

"He is by O'Reilly so he is entitled to keep improving and he has always had talent so we are hoping he is in for a good preparation."

The Flemington trainer has highlighted an 1100m Benchmark 70 event at Sale on Thursday week (Dec 22) as his first-up target.

In the same trial, O'Brien had impressive last start winner Portman who finished back in the jump out albeit untested by jockey Daniel Moor.

"His win at Bendigo first up was very good as he was coming back as a gelding off a long break as he had some knee issues at the start of the year," O'Brien said.

"He is heading to Bendigo again on Sunday for the Benchmark 70 1300m event and given he was three and a bit weeks between runs, we came down to Werribee today to have a quiet trial and he is ticking over nicely.

"He is a horse that we think has got the talent to step from a maiden to a 70, and this is the right time of year to go through your grades and set up a foundation for better races in the future."
