Buckhound scores maiden victory

A terrific ride from jockey James Winks was the catalyst behind Buckhound scoring his maiden victory at Pakenham on Thursday.

Winks was able to settle the son of Sepoy in the one-out, one-back position in running before giving him clear galloping in the straight which saw him surge to victory over 1600m.

"It was a good effort as he still doesn't know a lot, but he has been improving with every start and he will win more races in the future as all he tries to do is please you," Winks said.

The win came at start three after the three-year-old gelding finished runner-up on debut at Echuca before a nice fourth at Sandown in second start in a race.

"There was some reasonable performed maidens in the race so that bodes well for his future," Winks said.
