Bell chimes in O'Brien double

That Rings A Bell finished powerfully to win the Sheen Group Handicap (1300m) at Sandown on Monday to complete a double for trainer Danny O’Brien.

The Flemington trainer had won the Clanbrooke Racing Handicap (1500m) with Winkelmann and That Rings A Bell won at her first outing since finishing unplaced at Flemington at Group III level on November 9.

Well back around the home turn, Damien Oliver allowed That Rings A Bell to balance up wide out under topweight of 60kg and the four-year-old daughter of So You Think found her stride late.

That Ring’s A Bell ($5.50) got up to defeat Mossbelle ($16) by a length with Niamh Chinn Oir ($7) a half length away third.

Oliver said he was expecting a forward showing from That Rings A Bell.

“Her first three runs in a preparation are usually her best and she’s better with her runs spaced,” Oliver said.

“I ended up settling further back than I expected, I was thinking I’d be midfield or a little worse but there was good tempo in the race.

“Once she peeled off them and got to the outside she let down nicely and finished strongly.”

Oliver said That Rings A Bell has more wins in store this preparation.

“I think she’s well placed at this time of year,” Oliver said. “Danny has placed her well and I think the mares' races at this time of year will suit her.

“She did that well under the weight today and it was a good performance.”
