O'Brien filly Flirts with ability
Danny O’Brien is optimistic his fruitful end to the spring can continue with promising juvenile Absolute Flirt, who turned heads with a sharp hitout at Monday’s official trials at Cranbourne.
The daughter of Stratum, a $100,000 purchase out of Book 2 at this year’s Magic Millions Yearling Sale, settled on the speed for Damien Oliver and went to the line under minimal riding to stop the clock at 45.85, more than two lengths in front of John McArdle’s Battle Angel and Lindsay Park filly Edinburgh.
The 16-time Group 1 winning horseman, who saddled up Vow And Declare and Order Of Command to win during the Flemington carnival, was delighted with the performance and confirmed Absolute Flirt would line up in Saturday week’s $200,000 Magic Millions Clockwise Classic at Sportsbet-Ballarat.
“She’s always been pretty precocious and she’s been ready to go for a little while,” O’Brien said
“She went to Ballarat a couple of weeks ago and trialled the reverse way to get herself qualified for the Magic Million (Clockwise Classic) race there and we bought her here today for something different again.
“She trialled really nicely so touch wood, she’ll line up at Ballarat on Saturday week.
“We expect, on what she showed this morning, to be pretty competitive.”
While Absolute Flirt’s trial win was visually impressive at 45.85 seconds, the quickest two-year-old of the morning was Team Hawkes’s Zoustar colt, Torched who clocked 45.81 for his 800m gallop against the colts and geldings.
