Star maiden for Rosemont

Rosemont Stud look to have another handy stayer on their hands after three-year-old filly Reflect The Stars broke through for her maiden win with an impressive staying performance over 2000m at Seymour on Monday.

At just her third career start, the Rosemont Stud owned and bred filly showed her liking for the increased distance but winning strongly despite sitting wide in running.

Jockey Damien Thornton said the daughter of Starspangledbanner had much scope for her future following the victorious performance.

"Although we were wide, she was in a nice rhythm and we were able to stay out of trouble and she continued to build and build and she was very solid to the line so getting out to 2400m shouldn't be a problem for her in the future," Thornton said.

Trainer Danny O'Brien was very pleased with the filly's effort at her first try at 2000m, after starting her career with races over 1400m and 1500m.

"That was a solid effort based on it's just her third start in a race and she didn't get any favours from the wide gate," O'Brien said.

"But Damien kept her comfortable and got the best out of her late and that bodes well for her future to put in such a strong performance this early in her career as she will only be getting stronger and will improve from what she has shown today."
