Former Kiwi Gallopin To O'Brien Milestone

Former Kiwi galloper Gallopin brought up a milestone for the Danny O’Brien stable with his tough win at Ballarat today.

The three-year-old, a son of Pins, was the 100th winner of the season for the stable – the first time O’Brien has achieved the feat.

Being a VRC meeting, it also brought up the 38th city win for the season for the stable which matches its previous best from last year with three weeks of the season to go.

Gallopin
was a most impressive winner of his second Australian start, winning a maiden by six lengths at Bendigo on slow ground last month.

This time, though, stepping up in grade and onto very heavy ground, he sat closer to the pace and toughed out a determined win to score narrowly over Magistrate’s Court and Findaz Keepaz.

“We’ve virtually had to start from scratch with him but he’s learning all the time and has really hit his straps,” O’Brien’s racing manager Aaron Corby said.

“The way he’s racing he’ll keep going through the winter. He obviously likes the wet and the Pins keep getting better.

“We’ll probably look to step up in grade again perhaps to a Saturday now.”
