Gallopin Into Prominence

Gallopin showed his class by winning the TCL Electronics Plate at Flemington this afternoon.Caught three wide early in a slowly run race, jockey Hugh Bowman showed patience in allowing Gallopin to stride along withoutexerting himself too much.

Halfway down the straight Bowman got to work and gave Gallopin ($4.60-$4.40-$4.60F) full rein. He got past the leader Stedman ($5.50-$6.50) and went on to win by three quarters of a length.

Third was The Wolverine ($8.50-$10), which made an eye catching run from well back in the field.

"I've ridden this horse last start and I'd rather be three deep and back off them than making a run and pressing forward early", said Bowman.

"It proved the right decision."

"I knew he was prepared for this race and I knew he would be too good for them if I controlled the race from where I did."

Bowman, who has only three rides during Cup Week, has now won on two of them.

"He's had two rides for us.", said Gallopin's trainer Danny O'Brien.

"He won on the filly Juste Momente on Tuesday and produced another beauty there."

"I've just taken the good rides this year", Bowman quipped.

O'Brien has high hopes for Gallopin, which has now won 4 races and $121,000 from only 9 career starts.

"He's a nice horse", said O'Brien.

"He hasn't had many starts and he's getting better all the time."

"He'll go on to better races."

Gallopin turned the tables on The Wolverine today after running second to it at Caulfield in mid-October.

"He was second up and fitness beat him right at the finish", O'Brien explained.

"He took the benefit and won here at Flemington."

With a win at Flemington under his belt, O'Brien is thinking of sending Gallopin after some black type next start.

"Possibly the Eclipse Stakes at Sandown in about 3 weeks time", O'Brien suggested when asked about Gallopin's next mission.

"The horse is certainly progressive and that would be a nice next step for him."

The $100,000 Group 3 Eclipse Stakes will be run at Sandown on the 24th of November.
