O’Brien ready to tackle Cups

Flemington trainer Danny O'Brien is very happy about his chances in the big spring features after Cup weights were released earlier today.

O'Brien's Caulfield Cup winner, Master O'Reilly received 55kgs, the same weight he carried to an unlucky fourth in the Melbourne Cup last year, while promising stayer Vigor was given 51kgs for the two features.

"All of our nominations have been allotted weights that will give them a chance at victory if they are good enough," O'Brien said.

The trainer's Cup hopefuls are all at various stages of their preparations with Vigor racing at Flemington on Saturday second-up in the Group 2 Makybe Diva Stakes over 1600m, while Master O'Reilly will be first-up in the same race.

Those two quality stayers will not be O'Brien's only Cup nominated runners in action at Saturday's meeting as Fifth Avenue Lady and Our Cannavaro will also race.

"All our nominated horses are progressing well in the early stages of their campaigns and over the next two months they will get the opportunity to prove they can match it with the best in the land," O'Brien said.

"It's an exciting time and I am looking forward to seeing which of my horses can measure up."
