Rock to star in Classic

Flemington trainer Danny O'Brien is hoping history can repeat with Rockferry who contests tomorrow's Listed Geelong Classic at Geelong.

Last year, Rebel Raider became the first horse to win the Geelong Classic/Victoria Derby double and O'Brien is hoping to do the same with his improving three-year-old.

The colt, a son of Pentire and a full-brother to former top galloper Xcellent, has started only twice, O'Brien convinced he is purely a stayer.

After a fair debut over a mile he proved too classy with a five length win over tomorrow's track and distance at his only other start.

Rockferry is among second acceptances for the Victoria Derby on Saturday week and is on the second line of betting for tomorrow's race at $5.50, with Darren Weir's Keep Control the $4.80 favourite.

Last year Rebel Raider was far more experienced when winning the Geelong Classic before causing an upset in the Victoria Derby, beating Whobegotyou.

While Rockferry lacks the race experience to last year's winner, he is well fancied in Derby markets and is just a $10 chance.
