O'Brien ponders Mackinnon with Vigor

Caulfield Cup placegetter Vigor, at risk of missing a Melbourne Cup berth, will be an acceptor in the $750,000 Mackinnon Stakes (2500m) at Flemington on Saturday.

Trainer Danny O'Brien will decide whether to roll the dice and take the horse's destiny out of the hands of others. A win in the Mackinnon will guarantee Vigor an exemption from the ballot.

Vigor is 29th on the elimination order after yesterday's third declaration stage, but only 24 horses can face the starter next Tuesday for the race that stops the nation.

Master O'Reilly, the 2007 Caulfield Cup winner, will run in the $750,000 Mackinnon Stakes (2000m) at Flemington on Saturday after his eye-catching effort in this year's Caulfield Cup.

Caulfield Cup winner Viewed, chasing back-to-back Melbourne Cup victories, will cap his build-up by running in the Mackinnon Stakes.

Roman Emperor, runner-up to Viewed at Caulfield, will go straight into the Cup without another run.
