Strong omen for Rockstardom

'''After one run Rockstardom's connections can claim they have the equal of the colt's famous mother Makybe Diva.
'''
Rockstardom ($5) finished fourth in the Jacobs Creek Plate for three-year-old maidens on the Geelong synthetic track.

The great Makybe Diva was fourth on debut at Benalla in July 2002, hardly an indication she would win the Melbourne Cup in 2003, '04 and '05.

There was a lot more fanfare at Geelong when Makybe Diva's first foal, who sold for $1.5 million as a yearling, pleased his connections as he finished 3 1/4 lengths from winner Eclair Surprise ($6.50).

"That is about what we expected over 1300m with the first couple being a bit sharp for him over that distance," trainer Danny O'Brien said.

"I thought he was strong getting to the line in the manner of a horse that wants more ground."

O'Brien said the colt's next start would be over 1600m. Rockstardom will be set for the Victoria Derby (2500m).

"That's a taxing race and if there was any sign he wasn't coping I would put him away for the autumn," O'Brien said.

On hand to watch Rockstardom was Demon legend Garry Lyon, who is a member of the The Diva Syndicate that has a share in the colt by Galileo.
