1500TH WINNER FOR O'BRIEN
Danny O’Brien recorded his 1500th win as trainer when Herrlich scored at Geelong on Friday.
O’Brien took out his licence in the mid-90s after completing a law degree and he started with two boxes at the now defunct Epsom Training Centre.
“It’s a wonderful result that can’t be achieved with sensational support from my owners and the tireless dedication of my staff over the years,” O’Brien said post race.
“I hope they all take pride in this milestone as they have all been integral part of such an achievement.”
The horse to notch the milestone, Herrlich, had been knocking in the door of a win after losing by a head bob on debut and then getting a win taken off him in the steward’s room.
“The horse thinks he has won three races given what has taken place,” O’Brien said tongue-in-cheek post the 2200m victory.
“He loves a scrap and I just love how he has been progressing. Now that the maiden has been put away, I am looking forward to seeing him step up in grade and trip.”
