ACE TRIP TO STAWELL
A trip to the western region for trainer Danny O'Brien paid off as Grinzinger Ace broke his maiden status at Stawell on Thursday.
The son of Lonhro was having his third career start and he proved too good for his rivals winning the 1100m maiden event by two lengths.
The three-year-old was beaten the barest of margins on debut back in August before a middling run at Geelong saw him head to he paddock. However a recent Flemington jump out win had the punters keen and they sent him out race favourite for his return.
Jockey John Allen pushed forward from the wide gate and settled the gelding outside the leader before pulling away in the closing stages.
"It was a good win. He still has a bit to learn but at the 100m he knuckled down and put them away which was pleasing," Allen said post race.
