Adamantium tunes up for Sepoy challenge

Local trainer Danny O'Brien knows Adamantium faces a massive task at Saturday's Flemington meeting but said the three-year-old completed his preparation in fine style with a jump-out on Tuesday.

Adamantium stepped out in an 800-metre hit-out against the well-performed duo Sister Madly and Foxwedge as well as his stablemate Shopaholic.

The son of Elusive City trialled well within himself before finishing on terms with his three rivals with Sister Madly narrowly taking the heat in 47.68 seconds.

O'Brien said the jump-out was the right way to complete Adamantium's preparation for his crack at the outstanding sprinter Sepoy in the Group I Coolmore Stud Stakes. The trainer produced Blue Diamond winner Star Witness to win the $500,000 sprint last year.

"I was very pleased with both of them,” O'Brien said.

"I thought the colt went well but he is up against Sepoy on Saturday, which is a bit of an ask but he is going really well.”

Foxwedge will also take on Sepoy in the Coolmore Stud Stakes. The colt's trainer John O'Shea said the son of Fastnet Rock's jump-out "did not pan out as I would have advised” but was pleased with Foxwedge's effort.

"He had to pop out from behind her (Sister Madly) and he seemed to do that alright,” O'Shea said.

"He spent a long time getting in behind her and he only had a furlong to get past her. He might have been better sitting outside her.

"He seemed to go all right. The last bit of his work was good. He got here last Tuesday and he's done well.”
