ADELAIDE CUP DRAW UNKIND TO KING
The barrier draw for the $400,000 Group 2 TAB Adelaide Cup at Morphettville next Monday was not kind to the dominant favourite King Of Leogrance.
Outstanding in winning the Roy Higgins Quality at Flemington last Saturday, the Danny O'Brien-prepared galloper drew one from the outside in gate 15.
Despite his wide alley, King Of Leogrance remains the hardest to beat according to the markets, with just a slight drift in his price.
With the non-acceptance of Vengeur Masque, Patrick Payne's Home By Midnight will carry the number one saddlecloth and topweight of 58.5kg, with the last-start Launceston Cup winner coming up with barrier four at the draw.
Ciaron Maher and David Eustace will have proven two-miler Yogi step from gate six.
Chris Waller pair Dabiyr and Naval Warfare, who filled the minor placings behind King Of Leogrance in the Roy Higgins Quality, drew 10 and eight respectively.
Last year Surprise Baby, at just start number six, won the Cup for Paul Preusker and this year he lines up a horse with a very similar profile.
Dark Alley will be having his seventh outing on Monday and will jump from gate nine.
Last Saturday's Lord Reims winner Eperdument is one of three locals in the field and Julie Oxlade, wife of trainer Shane, played her part to assist the mare by pulling out gate two.
The other two locals had mixed luck with Michael Hickmott's Azurite landing the outside gate, while Turf Man for John Hickmott fared better in three.
