ANCHOR DOWN MAKES A SPLASH

A positive ride from jockey Billy Egan set up Anchor Down's first win at Geelong on Sunday.

The son of Pariah had shown talent earlier in his career and Egan took the horse forward from a wide gate in the 1300m maiden event.

Trainer Danny O'Brien was full of praise for the ride and mentioned that the key was getting a track with give it.

"Billy's ride was tremendous and even though it was a Good 4, this track was perfect thanks to the rain late last week. This horse appreciated it as can be seen by his action and they way he stretched out late," O'Brien said.

Egan said all his pre-race plans worked out perfectly.

"It's not very often that the race pans out exactly how you want it to, but when we had that leader to follow that was setting a decent tempo I was very confident we had the race in our keeping," Egan said.

"It was a nice effort and I expect the win will give him plenty of confidence to go on with it."

Anchor Down's record improves to seven starts for a win and two second placings.
