ANOTHER CAMELOT DEBUT WINNER FOR O'BRIEN
With Russian Camelot having had less than a week to settle into his new home at Widden Stud, trainer Danny O'Brien has wasted no time in unvieling another debut Northern Hemisphere-bred winner by gun sire Camelot.
Hengroen made his winning debut over 1400m at Pakenham on Thursday night and the colt certainly has big shoes to fill following on from his former star stablemate.
"It was a terrific debut performance and he has a nice future, and do I get the comparisons, but Russian Camelot was a special horse and if this guy can live up to being half as good we will be thrilled," O'Brien said.
Jockey Damian Lane was full of praise for the debutant given he had settled closer in the run than anticipated.
"I was hoping to ride him a little quieter, but he began so well and there wasn't much speed on so we pushed forward and he was really good consideing his inexperience. There is a lot of upside with him," Lane said.
The UK three-year-old was purchased by Mathew Becker of Group One Bloodstock, with O'Brien the under bidder at the famed French Arqana Yearling Sale in October 2019.
"We were thrilled when Mat asked us to train the horse as we liked him a lot at the sale and he has continued to develop into a fine specimen and we are really excited about his future," O'Brien added.
"There is a nice progression of three-year-old races around 2000m in town over the next two months that should fit nicely into first preparation."
