Attention turns to new BC

 Now with undefeated mare Black Caviar retired, the spotlight will undoubtedly turn to her blueblood siblings that have fetched millions of dollars in the sales ring.

Belle Couture, the half sister to the recently-retired champion sprinter, is progressing nicely in the early stages of her race track education according to trainer Danny O’Brien.

Purchased by BC3 Thoroughbreds for $2.6 million at last year’s Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, BC3 perhaps gave a clue to their opinion of the filly by forking out $5 million for her full brother at this year’s sale.

Currently six weeks into her first preparation at O’Brien’s Barwon Heads property, O’Brien said Belle Couture would be ready to move to his Flemington stable in around a month’s time.

"There is no timeframe with her getting her to the races at the moment. I’ve only had her for six weeks so I can’t make any decisions about where or when she is likely to debut," O’Brien said.

"It’s still a long way off at the moment; she’s never seen a set of barriers or even had a gallop in her life so she’s got a lot of education still to go.”

Despite being so early in her schooling process, O’Brien said the stable had been encouraged by the what they’d seen so far from the well-related youngster.

"She’s a really nice style of filly with a lovely temperament and she’s really enjoying being in the stable," he said.

"Even though it’s early doors at the moment we’re very pleased with what she’s showing us."
