BENNETT PARTNERSHIP CRUZING
A Bellarine Peninsular partnership between syndicator Bennett Racing and Danny O'Brien appeared a no-brainer and the pair ticked off their first winner together when filly Colorado Cruz made a mess of her rivals at Colac on Saturday.
In an excellent piece of placement, the Super Vobis qualified daughter of Nicconi went around in her third start for O'Brien as the$1.80 favourite after a third and second placing, and she was able to easily land the cash.
Jockey Liam Riordan took luck out of the equation by taking the three-year-old straight to the front and she lengthened impressively to win by three lengths.
"It was a really nice performance after some solid recent form," winning jockey Riordan said post race.
"It was really never in doubt as she travelled like the winner the whole way."
Expect to see more of the Bennett Racing's black, orange and white silks on O'Brien runners in the future as the syndicate has a handful of horse placed with the Barwon Heads based trainer.
Riordan went on to make it a double with the stable when Laelaps was too good in the 2000m BM58 event.
The win was the Tavistock filly's second of her career, and Riordan fell foul of the stewards with a suspension after showing plenty of ambition to get the mare into clear running in the event.
