CARINI CUP PRICE SLASHED AFTER FLEMINGTON WIN
Danny O'Brien could enter the chase for another Melbourne Cup with talented import Carini after his win at Flemington on Saturday.
Carini scored second-up over 1700m in the last race of the Flemington meeting with Caulfield Cup-winning jockey Michael Dee in the saddle.
The French-bred galloper caught the eye of TAB price assessors with his maiden Australian success, firming from $51 to $26 in Melbourne Cup betting.
Carini also firmed from $101 to $34 in TAB's Caulfield Cup market while the winner of four of eight starts also holds a Cox Plate entry.
Carini was stakes-placed over 2500m in France last October.
O'Brien said the son of Siyouni could step up to that trip at his next outing at Flemington.
"We've had him since Christmas time and the horse could've run a mile-and-a-half (at Flemington) if we wanted," O'Brien, who won the 2019 Melbourne Cup with Vow And Declare, said.
"I'm glad he got the job done and we can probably step him up in higher distance races where he'll be better suited.
"We'll have a chat to everyone, potentially he'll be back here (Flemington) in three weeks for the Bart Cummings."
Winning the Bart Cummings would earn Carini a guaranteed Melbourne Cup start.
Caulfield and Melbourne Cup weights will be released on Tuesday, which could produce a few tweaks to betting markets for the rich spring events.
