CRACKING FINISH FOR THE MAN
Looking in a seemingly hopeless position with 300m to run, Cracksman launched a barnstorming finish from back in the field to land his first city win at Morphettville on Saturday.
Sent out $3.90 favourite in the 1800m event, the son of Zoustar was allowed to find his feet by leading SA rider Todd Pannell however the slow pace and midrace move saw him drift back to near the tail entering the straight.
"He was travellign well in the wet ground, we juts needed to get some room and I felt he could put himself in the race," Pannell said about the position he ended up in.
And all looked lost when Emily Finnegan kicked 6 lengths clear on long shot Scout's Honour after a daring midrace move.
"Once he got daylight he charged at the line and in the end it was soft on the line. It was an impressive performance and I think he could go on it with," Pannell said.
The win was the four-year-old's second at career start number 10 which also includes three placings.
