CUPID GOES WAY BACK FOR O'BRIEN

Cupid's Conquest maiden win at Ararat on Tuesday went a long, long way back for trainer Danny O'Brien.

The Melbourne Cup winning trainer not only trained the three-year-old's sire (Shamus Award) and dam (Berkshire Lady), but he also trained the dam's sire (Star Witness) and her dam (Placement). And to add further depth to link, he also trained Star Witness' dam Leon Chiara.

"This family has been very good to my over the time so even though is it is a maiden at Ararat, you still get a kick out of continuing the tradition," O'Brien said.

"A special thanks must go to Harry Coffey as he tread with angels fear late in the race to give her the chance to win."

Coffey pushed the three-year-old through a needle eye opening in the home running before holding off all the challengers.

"We had to both breathe in as it got quite willing, but her effort was good and for her to win third time out at 2200m is an excellent training performance," Coffey said.
