DARING MEECH CLAIMS VICTORY

Jockey Linda Meech could have high-fived the crowd at Donald in the closing stages of Always Hunting's maiden victory as the gelding sailed down the outside fence for victory.

Meech angled the son of Cable Bay to the widest part of the track in the straight of the 1600m event in search of better ground and the three-year-old repaid her dare by sprinting clear to claim the win on the Heavy 10 surface.

"He wasn't really handling the track so I thought the best part of the track was out there so we headed out to find the better ground," Meech said post-race.

"Even though it cost us 2-3 lengths to head out there, I thought it would be better finding the ground that he will like than staying near the inside and going through ploughed up part of the track."

The win was at start five for the three-year-old, who was placed on a Heavy 8 track earlier in his career.
