Distancing sibling rivalry
Given her bloodlines, Crimson And Clover has always had pressure to live up to the performances of her family, but today in her maiden victory the three-year-old filly did something neither of her famous half-siblings did in their careers.
The daughter of Sepoy scored over 1600m, showing at start three she has more scope distance wise than half-sister Eloping and ill-fated half-brother Of The Brave.
Eloping won seven of her 24 starts and over $1.2 million, however she never saluted above 1200m, while Of The Brave won at listed and Group 3 level over 1000m and 1100m respectively from his three-start career before losing his life from a knee infection on the eve of his three-year-old season.
Trainer Danny O'Brien said the filly had the potential to run over longer trips, but was quick to highlight that she had a fair way to go to match the feats of her siblings.
"It was a really strong tough win that shows she has good potential over a trip in the future," O'Brien said.
"She was entitled to wilt on her run given the three-wide trip she had, but she kept finding and giving through the line which was encouraging."
