Double delight for Winks and O'Brien

Jockey James Winks bought up a double with trainer Danny O'Brien at Werribee on Friday, when Shauquin proved too good over 1400m.

Winks pushed forward from a wide gate to settle the son of Savabeel outside the leader in the BM64 event, before wearing down eventual leader La Volt in the shadows of the post to score the victory.

"I always wanted to be forward on this track, from that wide alley, so we took our time to get across and the horse relaxed into a nice rhythm and I was confident he would get the job done late," Winks said.

The win was Winks 154th for O'Brien, after notching a winner earlier in the day aboard talented two-year-old Embrace Me.

Shauquin has won three of his 11 starts and O'Brien will look to continue to race him through his grades in the coming weeks.

"He deserves a chance in town and he is a horse that enjoys some sting out of the ground so he is in at the right time of the year and we will see if he can measure up to that grade before the end of the season," O'Brien said.
