Eagle impresses at the Valley

Classy mare Impressive Eagle showed her quality with a gutsy win for trainer Danny O’Brien at Moonee Valley on Saturday.

Having her second start for the Flemington trainer, Impressive Eagle saluted in the Leilani Classic (1200m) taking her career record to three wins from 19 starts pushing her career earnings to just short of $250,000.

O’Brien was thrilled to get the mare into the winner’s stall for the first time under his tutelage.

“She is lovely horse with a lot of scope and it’s very pleasing to get a win with her for her new connections,” O’Brien said.

“She will take a lot of confidence from Saturday's win and hopefully she can use this performance as a springboard for a big campaign.”

Jockey Glen Boss settled back in the field on the five-year-old mare before setting her alight around the field from the 600m.

“It was tough win as she didn't get any favours in the run,” Boss said.

“She had to make a long searching run as nothing was taking us into the race and her performance was full of merit.

“Her record probably doesn’t do her justice as she has finished second six times against some quality horses, so hopefully this preparation she can rectify her record.”

O’Brien has yet to pick out Impressive Eagle’s next target, but he has plenty of options given she is not just a sprinter having won at listed level over a mile earlier in her career.
