EMPHATIC FIRST AUSTRALIAN WIN FOR IMPORT

Progressive import Somerset Maugham emphatically broke through for his first Australian victory at Sale on Sunday.

Jockey Damian Lane made use of his good draw and took up the running with the six-year-old and there was never a moment of sweat for star hoop.

After securing a mid-race breather, Lane booted for home around the corner and the lightly raced son of Galileo put his rivals to the sword to win eased down by 3.5 lengths.

“He was very good today, and I expect he will take a lot of confidence out of this performance and he can go on and win better races,” Lane said.
