Executing sales plan has O'Brien excited

A set pre-sale plan and the discipline to adhere to that plan at last week's Magic Millions sales has trainer Danny O'Brien excited with the yearlings he secured for his stable.

"We ended up picking nine quality yearlings on the back of our own bidding and some loyal clients that purchased horses on our behalf," O'Brien said.

"It certainly was an interesting week with breeders ecstatic and buyers checking their bank balances thanks to the amazing strength of the sale.

"We were able to remain disciplined throughout to ensure our purchases were smart and educated."

The highest amount O'Brien paid at the sale was $240,000 on Saturday night for a Hinchinbrook colt out of a handy mare that he trained in Hidden Message.

He also secured a colt from his Cox Plate and Australian Guineas winning star Shamus Award. These two added with a Savabeel full-brother (pictured) of Group 1 winner Pasadena Girl, All Too Hard colt from Tulip’s family and a Stratum filly from Widden Stud's draft.

"In hindsight, all four colts were well bought given the astronomical prices forked out across the entire Gold Coast sale. We are happy to say we didn’t overspend and have come home with yearlings that we are excited about," O'Brien said.
