Filly hits Bullseye through will to win

Well-bred three-year-old filly Another Bullseye showed her will to win and a tenacious spirit at Sandown this afternoon to triumph for the first time in city grade.

The three-quarter sister to superstar sprinter Buffering, registered her second win after leading all the way in the fillies BM64 1600m event.

"Our plan was to be in the first five or six in running, but when no-one wanted to take it up and we were wide, we pushed on to lead and were able to set only a moderate tempo," winning apprentice Ben Thompson said.

"The favorite (Summer Glen) was putting the pressure on as we rounded the turn and they had a terrific battle down the whole straight, but this girl just showed such a strong desire to win.

"It's a terrific effort by the stable to have her able to win second up at a mile carrying 58.5kgs, she is in for a terrific preparation."

Trainer Danny O'Brien praised Thompson's ride and pointed to the apprentices 1.5kg claim as being a critical factor in the win.

"The horse has done a tremendous job given it was four week's between runs, but Ben rode her very well. He summed up the early speed perfectly and rated her very well out in front before being very good in the shadows of the post," O'Brien said.

The win was pleasing for owner-breeder Uluru Stud as the filly landed her connections a Super Vobis bonus in addition to the race's prizemoney.

O'Brien said he expected the filly to take the next step into better races later in her preparation as a four-year-old.
