FRIENDS REVEL IN KYNETON DEBUT WIN
It started with a couple of cheeky wines over lunch but it could end with something much more exciting for the group of school mums that race exciting filly Need New Friends.
The Danny O'Brien-trained filly was well supported to start the $2 favourite in a 1200-metre maiden at Kyneton on Friday and she didn't let her backers down, cruising to a dominant victory under Ben Allen.
Among the group of women in the ownership of the daughter of Shamus Award, a $30,000 purchase at the Magic Million National Yearling Sale, are Nina O'Brien and Rianna Ponting, wife of Australian cricket legend Ricky Ponting.
"We were out for Rianna's birthday lunch and we decided we needed a horse so Rianna facetimed Danny to ask what he had for us," Nina O'Brien said.
"It's the first time we've all gone into the horse together and it's nice to start with a win."
