Hollywood follows in star mum's footsteps
It may have not have the Group 1 Goodwood Handicap, but young mare Hollywood matched one of her mother's feats today by winning at Morphettville.
The four-year-old daughter of dual Group 1 winning star Glamour Puss took out the 1529m restricted 0-75 mares' handicap for her first metropolitan win on the South Australian city track.
Winning at Morphettville was a feat her mother acheived in 2005 when she won the time honoured Goodwood Handicap for trainer Danny O'Brien.
Earlier this year O'Brien managed to claim Group 2 and Group 3 success with Shopaholic, who like Hollywood is owned and bred by Waikato Stud, and whose mother, Splashing Out, was also trained to feature race success by the Flemington trainer.
"I take pride in seeing progeny of our former horses doing well on the track and it's even better when I have the opportunity to train them," O'Brien said.
"Glamour Puss was an absolute star and getting a metropolitan win on her pedigree page with one of her progeny is very satisfying."
Saturday's win was the second of Hollywood's career from just five starts and O'Brien is hoping there is more to come from the New Zealand bred.
"She is a fair way off the class of her mother, however her first city win was as a four-year-old and she only got better with age, so if Hollwyood can continue improving there will be more wins in store for her in the future," he said.
