KAH RAILS TO VICTORY

Premier jockey Jamie Kah took only two races to open her 2022 account when she guided Stay Gold to victory early on the Flemington New Year's Day card.

From barrier 1,  the gun rider position behind the early speed and didn't go around a horse in the 1400m mares event to secure the narrow victory.

"It was an excellent victory as she got headed, but to be able to lift under the big weight and find the line really impressed me," Kah said post race.

The win was Stay Gold's fifth in her careeer and the five-year-old mare has now had two starts at her home track at Flemington, both on New Year’s Day.

While comfortably held into a minor placing by Hasstobegood 12 months ago, the mare got the result this time over fellow $5 equal favourite Mrs Sippy.

There wasn’t much between this field with Lady D’Oro - who also beat home Stay Gold in this race last year - finishing second-last, but beaten a mere 2.45 lengths.
