Katelyn treble highlighted by Miss Rose De Lago
Katelyn Mallyon's hopes of achieving her season's goal are back on track after a red-letter day at Caulfield on Saturday, highlighted by winning the final event aboard the Danny O'Brien-trained Miss Rose De Lago.
The 21-year-old edged to within two wins of outriding her metropolitan claim after partnering her maiden city treble.
Mallyon partnered Japhils to victory in the $80,000 Aaron Barnett Handicap before following up with victory aboard Forgeress in the $80,000 mypunter.com Join Today Handicap and rounding out the day with success aboard Miss Rose De Lago (Race 9).
Mallyon said she always wanted to ride a metro treble and to do so while she is striving to outride her claim made it especially sweet.
“It’s something that I’ve always wanted to do throughout my whole career, so it’s fantastic to get it done today especially when I’m trying to outride my claim,” she said.
“That brings me within two (wins). I’ve got another month, I’ve worked out there’s another nine metro meetings so hopefully I can get it done. That’s my next mission.”
Mallyon, a former winner of the Victorian Metropolitan Apprentice Jockeys’ Premiership, demonstrated her versatility with her trio of Caulfield winners.
The John Sadler-trained Japhils ($5) and Danny O'Brien's Miss Rose De Lago ($4.60) both won on the back of strong on-pace efforts, while the Quinton Scott-trained Forgeress ($7.50) charged home from midfield to score her win.
