KNIGHT SLAYS OPPOSITION

Talented stayer Saracen Knight bounced back into the winner's circle for the first time in almost two years at Flemington in the opening event at Flemington on Saturday winning the Murray Cox Handicap (2540m).

The son of Camelot last tasted the spoils of victory back in September 2020 when he was trained by Danny O'Brien at the time, but had a few trainer changes since before returning to O'Brien late last year.

"Obviously we had him there a couple of springs ago and he won very well and ran very well in a Bendigo Cup," O'Brien said.

"He was going OK over the summer, but he wasn't appreciating the really firm tracks. We put him out and brought him back with this time of year in mind. He put the writing on the wall last start and we got a good ride  from Craig (Newitt) today."

"It was great to repay the faith of his owners, who have been patient with him and hopefully now he can he can hold this form."
