LAFARGUE LANDS O'BRIEN CUP DAY TREBLE
A runaway victory by Lafargue secured trainer Danny O'Brien training honours on Geelong Cup Day with a treble.
O'Brien, who has stables on-course at Geelong as well as private property at nearby 13th Beach, trained King's Crossing to win the opening race of the day, which was followed by three-year-old filly Served Cold taking out the listed Geelong Classic in Race 5.
Then the day out on his home track was capped by Lafargue storming to victory in Race 8 a BM84 1200m event.
The win was the son of Capitalist's sixth career victory and the strength of the win has O'Brien looking towards the Melbourne Cup Carnival with the five-year-old.
"It was an impressive performance the way he put them away today. He did have the good draw, but his turn of foot when the leader rolled away from the fence was devastating," O'Brien said post race.
"Given the strength of today, we will give him a chance on Melbourne Cup Day in a 1400m BM90 event while he is such good form."
Winning jockey Billy Egan echoed O'Brien's thoughts.
"He was dominant today and was very powerful through the line so I am looking forward to what he can do during Cup week."
