MIAMI BOUND DEMOLISHES OAKS RIVALS
First, it was the Melbourne Cup and then on Thursday trainer Danny O'Brien took the Kennedy Oaks with Miami Bound after a masterful ride from Damien Oliver.
Miami Bound was displaced as favourite for the Group 1 classic by Gamay but proved far too classy for her fellow fillies as she ran clear in the straight to record a soft victory.
The winner was Oliver's 119th G1 winner and his fifth success in the VRC Oaks.
Miami Bound is out of the 2007 VRC Oaks winner Arapaho Miss and O'Brien said he had been waiting to step the filly up in distance.
"We have been building her all spring to get to 2500m and we knew when we took the wrapping off her at the 2500 metres, she was going to really let go," he said.
"Even though she was three wide she was always going to have plenty to offer when we got into the straight."
Miami Bound, who started at $4.20, had three-and-a-quarter lengths up her sleeve over Never Listen ($41), with two lengths to the fast-finishing Moonlight Maid ($4.80).
Ethereal Stakes winner Gamay was backed heavily late from $4.80 to start the $3.80 favourite but only battled into fifth place while Vegas Jewel ($5) endured a wide run before fading into sixth place.
