Mum’s the word for the improving Hollywood

Trainer Danny O’Brien will be hoping lightning strikes twice after regally bred New Zealand mare Hollywood emulated her mother by winning her first Victorian metropolitan race at Moonee Valley on Derby Eve.

In 2004, Glamour Puss, bred and raced by Waikato Stud owner Gary Chittick, won her first race for O’Brien at the same night meeting before going onto win two Group 1 races and more than $1.2 million in prizemoney.

O’Brien said it was a great thrill to see a daughter of one of his past stars achieve metro success on her first attempt on Melbourne city track.

“Glamour Puss was such a wonderful horse to me and for the Chittick family, so it gives me great kick to win races with her daughter,” O’Brien said.

“And the fact she won her a race at the same meeting as her mother did early in their careers is great.”

Glamour Puss won a 1200m event back on 2004 before going to make her name as a sprinting star by winning the Goodwood Handicap and Salinger Stakes, while her daughter’s win came over 1600m on Friday night.

“She is a very tough mare and how far she gets over in the future will be interesting to see, but her development this campaign to win in Adelaide and then again at the Valley is very encouraging for her future,” O’Brien said.

Hollywood is a four-year-old mare by Pins, who stands at the Chittck’s Waikato Stud, alongside O’Reilly, Savabeel and Fast ‘n’ Famous.
