No sweat for odds on Eira

Jockey Damian Lane gave favourite backers no stress in the 1600m maiden at Pakenham on Sunday as he guided Eira to an easy victory.

After jumping away well, Lane chose to settle the Makfi gelding midfield on the fence before edging into the clear upon straightening and chasing down the leaders inside the final 100m.

"He has been his own worst enemy by mucking up the starts, however he jumped away well and gave himself a really good chance today," Lane said.

"He travelled well and chased very hard at the end, he deserved to get the result today as he has been racing well and it was good to get the win."
