NZ bred makes her presence felt at Ballarat

New Zealand bred filly Keep De Rose backed up her impressive recent debut with a strong win over 1600m yesterday in just her second race start.

Trainer Danny O'Brien was thrilled with the Karaka graduate who proved too good for her rivals with James Winks on board in the Shannons Fillies and Mares' Maiden Plate (1600m) at Ballarat.

"It was a very good effort as she worked a bit early, but once settled outside the leader she dropped the bridle and relaxed beautifully," O'Brien said.

The three-year-old then kicked clear with leader Our Nellie before proving too tough inside the final 100m to scroe her maiden victory.

"Her debut at Stawell was very encouraging and to back that up in her second race start with such a gutsy effort is exciting," O'Brien said.

The leading trainer is confident the daughter of Keeper will continue to improve as she steps up in distance.

"Her breeding suggest, and also the way she relaxes in her races, that she will not have any trouble getting out over a staying trip."

O'Brien said he would likely find a ratings race for her next start before giving her a chance at getting to the Oaks if her form was to warrant it.

"She has plenty of scope so we will keep raising the bar for her and see how far she can get in her first racing preparation."
