O'Brien hoping to unleash the Beast

Trainer Danny O’Brien is hoping that a return to Sydney will provide the spark that four-year-old gelding Beauty’s Beast needs to improve and notch his first win since being purchased by the stable last season.

The good looking son of Guillotine was bought from his New Zealand owners, Windsor Park Stud, by clients of the O’Brien stable following the gelding’s impressive win in the listed South Pacific Classic over 1400m at Randwick over the autumn carnival.

In four runs for O’Brien, Beauty’s Beast is yet to place, but a return to Sydney and more importantly the clockwise direction is expected to help.

“All of his runs have been even for me — he hasn’t been too far away but he certainly hasn’t shown what we know he can,” O’Brien reported this week.

“Hopefully the change in direction will suit, as a few of the jockeys that have ridden him have reported that he wobbles around the bend down here (Melbourne).”

Beauty’s Beast won four of his eight starts in New Zealand, all on right-handed tracks.

James McDonald will take the mount on Saturday in race five on the program over 1400m.
