O'BRIEN LANDS TREBLE ON SATURDAY
The hot form of Melbourne Cup winning trainer Danny O’Brien continued on Thursday night with a winning treble at Pakenham.
O’Brien teamed with Craig Williams for the maiden wins of Secret Sauce and Thee One, before Damien Oliver saluted aboard the well-bred Cordilla.
The three wins came for stable mainstays Mark Sowerby, Waikato Stud and Widden Stud.
“It’s great to get such strong results for such loyal and terrific owners,” O’Brien said.
“All three fillies are lovely horses that have nice futures both on and off the track.”
Secret Sauce made it her first win at start two, while Thee One careered away for a 3.5 length win after having registered four successive placing to start her career.
The most impressive winner of the night was perhaps Cordilla who swept from the back in the field for a strong victory.
The daughter of O’Brien’s Cox Plate winner Shamus Award and is out of Hilton Head, who is a half-sister to sire Star Turn and appears to have a nice future.
“Her turn of foot impressed me. I think she has the ability to go straight to town and be a nice horse moving forward,” Oliver said post race.
