O'Brien out for Blueblood trifecta

Trainer Danny O'Brien will be out to continue his rich vein of form with regally bred horses when Hamel steps out at Cranbourne tomorrow afternoon.

O'Brien has saluted with two Bluebloods, Rockstardom and Vettel, in the past week and he will be looking to make it three with Hamel tomorrow.

All three have are bred in the purple being by Group 1 winners out of Group winning mares.

Rockstardom, by Galileo, is the first foal of triple Melbourne Cup winning mare Makybe Diva and was able to salute for his first victory with an excellent first-up performance at Bendigo last Thursday.

Then on Sunday, O'Brien turned out three-year-old colt Vettel, a son of Redoute's Choice out of Group 2 winning mare Dancing, who made a winning debut over 1200m at Geelong.

Hamel, pictured winning first-up at Echuca on October 11, is a son of star jevunile Regimental Gal and like Vettel is also a son of Redoute's Choice. The four-year-old gelding is expected to be a short-priced favourite to complete the trifecta for O'Brien when he lines up in the 1600m Showcase event, where will be attempting to secure his third victory at his 10th start.

"It's always exciting to see the progeny of a star perform well as there is an air of expectation that they have to live up to," O'Brien said.

"All three horse have good upside and we hoping they can continue their winning form through summer months and graduate to better races later in their careers."
