O'Brien produces another promising O'Reilly

Trainer Danny O'Brien's hot form continued at Kyneton on Thursday when he produced another potential top liner by O'Reilly when Reinvigorate demolished his rivals over 1850m.

O'Brien has an immense record with the Waikato Stud stallion having produced three Group 1 winners by the sire - Master O'Reilly, Shamrocker and Shamexpress, as well as Group 2 winner and Caulfield Cup placed Vigor, who was owned by the same connections.

Despite racing only modest performers in the maiden event, the three-year-old gelding looked all class when he won eased down for jockey Damien Oliver after making a searching run from the 600m.

"He is a promising horse. It's good to get his maiden out of the way after a very good first-up effort in town," Oliver said.

"He has progressed nicely from his debut performance. There was good tempo on, so I was happy to be a bit further back than what I expected, but when I did ask him to quicken he joined in nicely and he won quite comfortably in the end."

The win also has his connections dreaming of greater things as many of them raced another O'Reilly prodigy in Vigor, who won of the Makybe Diva Stakes and finished third in the Caulfield Cup, and who also broke his maiden at his second race start.

"We have always had plenty of time for this horse and he has just taken time to mature. He is not fully there yet which makes his first two runs quite pleasing. I think we will step him up a grade and see how far he can progress during the Autumn," O'Brien said.

The trainer said the likely next to test for the emerging stayer would be over 2000m at The Valley in a BM64 event on Friday, March 15.
