O'BRIEN STALWARTS BRISBANE BOUND

Melbourne Cup-winning trainer Danny O'Brien is contemplating a trip to Brisbane for his stable stalwarts Vow And Declare and Young Werther.

The pair jumped out at Flemington on Friday morning and could head towards the Group 1 Doomben Cup later this month.

"They're both in good shape, I'm happy with where they're both at," O'Brien said.

Vow And Declare and Young Werther, pictured winning at Flemington, most recently raced in the Australian Cup at the end of March, where they finished fourth and seventh respectively behind Cascadian and Pride Of Jenni.

It was reported shortly after the race that Young Werther had pulled up with a veterinary issue, but O'Brien explained that it was one that proved easy to resolve.

"He went to Werribee and he had scintigraphy," O'Brien said.

"He just had a very deep-seeded hoof abscess … which the CT scan picked up for us.

"He's now got some glue-on shoes on, he's really sound and happy."

Sportsbet has both Vow And Declare and Young Werther at $15 for the Doomben Cup on May 25.
