Thornton partnered with Snitzel three-year-old gelding Silentz in an 1100m maiden event at Colac dashing to a length victory at just the horse's second race start.

"It's awesome to get a win with my first ride for Danny," Thornton said.

"He is giving me a great opportunity and I want grasp it with both hands and repay the faith he is showing in me."

Thornton still claims 3kg in town and O'Brien said the teenager can make a big impact during his loan period.

"He rides very well and I think we will be hearing a lot more of him in the coming months," O'Brien said.
