PORTER SHOWS HIS TRUE GRIT

A wide gate and carrying 62.5kg couldn't deny Porter scoring his seventh career win with a gutsy display at Caulfield on Wednesday.

The son of So You Think settled outside the leader after working across the field from the wide barrier of the 1400m event before taking over at the top of the straight and holding off all challenges.

"He is so tough this horse. At the top of the straight, he put the leader to the sword as he loves to do and he kept finding to hold off all the challengers," apprentice jockey Logan Bates said post-race to Racing.com

"Danny and the team have done a terrific job to have him fit enough to work both ends and he is just such a competitor."

Trainer Danny O'Brien said the six-year-old would now head to Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day over 1400m for his next start.
