Quaddie Craig runs Decircles around his opposition

Craig Williams farewelled the 2012/13 Victorian racing season in style, riding the final four winners – including the feature event – at yesterday’s VRC St Leger meeting at Flemington.

The star hoop teamed with the Danny O'Brien-trained Decircles to win the Auckland Racing Club Handicap (1200m) at his final meeting in Victoria before taking up a contract in Japan.

It was the first leg of the quaddie, which was followed by victories in the St Ledger for Gai Waterhouse aboard Hippopus, as well as Zevada and Notice Received, which gave Williams a second Flemington quartet this autumn following his Super Saturday heroics on March 9.

It wasn’t his best return at a city meeting, however, having ridden the first five winners at Caulfield on Memsie Stakes Day in September 2006.

There was a downside to the day for Williams, however, with the rider suspended for seven meetings for causing interference aboard Hippopus at the 500m.

That won’t prevent him from riding at Randwick on Saturday, where he has rides in the four Group 1 races, including Aliyana Tilde in the Sydney Cup and Rain Affair in the All Aged Stakes.
